“Drop Punches” are center punches I am offering which are made from S7 tool-steel “drops” (off cuts, scraps). This listing is mainly to find a use for these drops I have accumulated that are too short for full-sized tools. These are hardened and tempered all the same as my standard tools, they are just small and made utilizing what would otherwise be waste.
There is no set length or diameter on this listing, whatever I have in the drop bucket is what I’ll use, within reason of course (I won’t use anything too short to be functional). If you would like a specific size, I will have the option available but it will increase the price quite a bit, as the intention of this listing is to recycle offcuts.
Typically Drops are between 4”- 9”, and 5/8”- 3/4” diameter, the variety is reflected in the discounted price.
This listing is for one single punch per purchase, multiple are pictured to show sizing variance.
Everything I make has a polished striking end and working end regardless of the finish.
Featuring a rounded striking end (which I do attempt to anneal, but I cannot confirm how successful this process is) and a hard working end, I recommend a tooling-dedicated hammer to avoid damage to a forging hammer, but, you do you :)
ALL of my tools are finished with ZH Fabrication’s “Forge-Finish” Wax, which is a minimal yet rust resistant coating.
